Day
37—US 19E to Moreland Gap
18.9
miles, 410.5 total miles
When I woke up this morning, my tent was still soaked, so I hung it up
on a fence to dry a little. It actually
worked quite well.
More importantly, around midday, I crossed the 400 mile mark! Less than 1800 to go!
One cool thing about today’s hike was that it had a bit of everything;
it was a very diverse hike. There was a
waterfall, numerous streams, cascades, open fields, evergreen forests, ridge
hikes, but at the same time, the terrain wasn’t that difficult.
The second half of my day was not very pleasant though. I walked half a mile off the trail to get to
a hostel that was closed for no apparent reason. (I mean, at least put up a sign at the trail,
or something!)
So then I hiked six more miles, while being angry pretty much the
entire time. And then to top it all off,
it started to downpour about two miles from the shelter. So now I’m at the shelter, cursing (quietly)
the hostel for getting me soaked, knowing nothing will dry by tomorrow.
Oh and there was a snorer in the shelter. The rain drowned him out a bit, but not
much. It was a long day and a longer
night. (But I survived!)
